The Philippines Australia Resources Education Excellence Program (PAREEP) is an industry-funded scholarship program and  is supported by the Australian Government Aid Program through the Philippines Australia Human Resource Development Facility(PAHRDF). It aims to expand the pool of professionals in the Philippines minerals and resources industry and thereby addressing the emerging needs of the industry.
The Philippine Minerals and Resources Industry is experiencing a considerable shortage in professional and skilled workers in the Philippines. Local demand for minerals and resources professionals remains high and the Philippine Minerals and Resources Industry is forecast to grow with investments of USD 10 billion over the next 5 years

The Philippines Australia Ministerial Meeting in October 2008 agreed to support the industry through capacity building and address certain skill shortages in the minerals and resources sector.
